Has compressor installed for the first time?

  • Adjust desired pressure setting by using up and down buttons on the compressor display or through the App by entering desired pressure to PSET field by tapping or choosing the PSET field. Pressure shown on the compressor display is in bars. Bar to PSI table is as below. Set the pressure accordingly. If PSET is to be adjusted by using SmartCom App, PSI can be used directly to adjust the pressure required.
PSI Bar
100 7.0
120 8.3
140 9.7
160 11.0
  • Make sure any isolation valve placed in-between Compressor and the system is completely open and allow air to flow without any restriction and minimum pressure drops across the compressed air piping.
  • If the Compressor element temperature rises 100C, the Compressor will reduce the maximum allowed speed to a lower value, pump almost half of the air so that it can keep working with less cooling demand. Whenever temperature drops below 90C, the Compressor will start running at the full speed and deliver the max air flow it is designed to.
  • If the Compressor outlet reaches to PSET value and exceeds the set value (pressure of shown of the compressor exceeds the PSET, desired pressure setting of the compressor), and pressure is still not increasing at the point of use, make sure there is no device like in-line filters (may have filter elements clogged), or dryer (internally clogged or frozen) choking the air flow from Compressor to point of use or where the low pressure is measured.
  • Check compressor input voltages (for three phase compressors check phase to phase voltages, do not measure phase to ground or phase to phase voltages)
  • Check any air leaks after or inside the Compressor when the Compressor is running.
  • Check pipes, hoses used in the system and are sized correctly that are not causing pressure differences.
Compressor was working before and pressure was reaching required levels.
Check Compressor desired pressure setting PSET. It can be adjusted higher than usual. Adjust desired pressure setting by using up and down buttons on the compressor display or through the app by entering desired pressure to PSET field by taping or choosing the PSET field. Pressure shown on the Compressor display is in bars. Bar to PSI table is as below. Set the pressure accordingly. If PSET is to be adjusted by using SmartCom App, PSI can be used directly to adjust the pressure required.

  • Check any air leaks after or inside the Compressor when the Compressor is running. Eliminate or isolate the leaks. If there is a continuous air leak from the solenoid valve/discharge valve, check if solenoid valve is energizing and magnetized when compressor is running and there is no pressure in the system. If coil of the solenoid valve is not energizing and not magnetized check compressor internal fuses (where applicable), replace blown fuses if any. Measure transformer secondary 24VAC ports voltage. If 24VAC output of the transformer is not present or lower then replace the transformer or follow the circuitry to find out the possible reason to eliminate and have correct voltage output at the secondary side of the transformer. Check solenoid valve mechanical integrity and replace the damaged part or the solenoid valve.
  • If the Compressor shows E50 when powered up and letter E is shown on the Compressor display instead of the letters like F, L, A, P, h, t explaining the kind of value shown after the 5 seconds the new value selected by using the shift or double up arrow, get connected to the Compressor via SmartCom App (can be downloaded through U.S. Air Compressor Website), check hours left to service.

If hours left to service minus value on the app, buy the necessary parts and service the Compressor ASAP.

  • Check if inlet valve opens when the Compressor is running. Intake valve is the aluminum block placed in between air filter and the Compressor element. When the Compressor is not running and there is no pressure in the system intake valve plunger must move up and down freely. The intake valve plunger must open fully when the Compressor starts when system pressure measured by the compressor is 0.5 bar less than the PSET, desired pressure setting. Intake valve plunger movements can easily be observed and tested when inlet filter or the hose connecting from the intake valve and intake filter holder is removed. If plunger gets stuck or not opening at all, clean the piston controlling plunger movements up and down. Change necessary parts causing the intake valve plunger stuck and kept closed.
